Cien Fuegos of Austria just reissued this one, as heard on the Sound Between today… Nothing pleases me much more than the ‘design’ work Peter Brötzmann did for his albums on the cusp of the 60s-70s. (Maybe the music.) Super minimal, severe, info right up front, right down to the catalogue # - holy shit. How German. And totally punk… from 1970!! 1969’s Nipples might top it.
They’re probably a ”Swiss” snob’s nightmare, but these records must mark some kind of early apex in the history of crude, frill-less graphic design.
Weird, but Swedes Brainbombs were the first contemporary musicians who came to mind when thinking about the spartan graphics/merciless music combo. Just as brutal and drunk as Brötz + co. Seemd appropriate to play something from their No Balls offshoot, happily, since most Brainbombs stuff is FCC-unfriendliness of the highest order. This cover really looks like it could be some kind of tribute/parody re FMP0020, upping the ante in terms of sheer minimalism and replacing the tough-guy posturing with a portrait of a sad-eyed eunuch. Beautiful.
